EagleClaw Hand Strengthening Liniment
(YingZhaoPai)
Eagle Claw Hand Strengthening Liniment is a traditional formula for training the seizing power of the hands in Eagle Claw Kung Fu and capturing & seizing techniques (Qin Na).

Take a small amount* of the liniment and massage it into the joints of the hands and wrist as well as the tendon attachments of the flexor and extensor muscles of the hands located at the medial and lateral epicodyles of the humerus. Benefits the tendon strength of the hands, for those engaged in activities such as:
Gardening & farming
Grappling & wrestling
Rock-Climbing
Bodywork (massage)
Construction
Eagle Claw and Qin Na training
Precautions:
Do not use if pregnant.
This liniment is not for acute trauma – jammed, smashed, or broken fingers, nor ligament strains & sprains. It is a training formula directed towards lessening the likelihood of injury from repetitive use of the hands, and therefore is preventative.
If you have had an acute traumatic injury to the hand, see a physician and follow up with traditional Chinese medical treatments if appropriate. These may include the use of other types of liniments and poultices that are specifically for trauma.
It’s a good idea to test a small amount on the skin to look for any reaction. If your skin seems to be sensitive, attempt to water a portion down and continue to apply a small amount to different areas of the skin to give time for your body to “read & recognize” the contents. Two things can happen, either your body will adapt and be able to handle stronger concentrations, or it will continually reject the decoction. Use your judgement and exercise caution. If unsure, send an email with questions or concerns.
How to apply Liniment:
Apply liniment before and after periods of intense hand gripping activities and training.
Focus on tendon insertion sites and joints.
For best results, use pre-emptively with a scheduled training/conditioning plan.
San Huang San Herbal Ice
Trauma Liniment
San Huang San, or Three Yellow Powder is a traditional formula that Kung Fu practitioners used to facilitate healing of traumatic impact or torsion injuries where the skin is not broken.
Functions: This unique formulation of herbs in alcohol promotes circulation and dispels stasis, and contains natural ingredients of a cooling nature to provide relief from pain and swelling. While ice is beneficial to control swelling, it does not compare to this San Huang San with regards to recovery time.
Directions for Use:
Apply a moderate amount* of this cooling liniment over the site of injury and surrounding area above and below. While there may be pain, carefully massage the liniment into the tissues with care and intention. Repeat this 3 to 4 times per day for up to 5 days depending on the severity of injury. Once swelling has subsided and movement is easier, switch to Ho Family Dit Da Jow.
*3 to 5 mL at surrounding site of injury should suffice.
***External Use Only*** *Do not apply to dry, cracked, or broken skin* ***Like any alcohol product, keep out of reach of children***

Apply herbal ice to impacted area as soon as possible provided there is no open wound or emergency.
Focus on point of impact, as well as above and below.
For best results, use 3 to 4 times per day with gentle range of motion exercise and gentle massage.
Ho Family Dit Da Jow
Warming Liniment
Ho Family Dit Da Jow is a modified version of the Shao Lin Die Da Shen Yan Liang Fan which means “Young Forest Striking Divinely Proven Effective Prescription.” The original formula was brought to North America in the 1800s when Chinese immigrants were working on the railroads. Since some Chinese herbs could not be found, The Ho Family adjusted the formula with some Western herbs, and it came to be used extensively by practitioners of BaGua in San Francisco’s Bay Area throughout the 1980’s.
Functions: This powerful liniment is designed to alleviate pain and promote healing in the muscles and joints. It is useful for muscle & nerve pain, as well as tendonitis. It contains herbs to treat inflammation, as well as herbs that nourish connective tissue and bone.
Directions for Use:
Apply a moderate amount* of this warming liniment over the site of pain and surrounding area above and below. Repeat this 3 to 4 times per day for up to 5 days depending on the severity of injury. For acute traumatic injuries with swelling and decrease movement, consider using San Huang San Herbal Ice first.
